Bonjour from Paris, followers!
Hi everyone! Sorry that I haven’t been updating at all for the past few days, the reason is because I’m in paris right now with my boyfriend!
The trip so far has been wonderful, but it started off as less than - anything and everything that could go wrong, did! My luggage was stolen at heathrow airport, but recovered by security (thank god). then when I got into paris, my phone died and I couldn’t a) plug it in because I had canadian plugs not EU plugs and b) couldn’t get wifi on my computer because the airport wouldn’t take my paypal. The pay phones would also not recognize my boyfriends cell phone number or my parents number, so I was effectively stranded in the airport! Thankfully two nice ladies at an information desk helped me to call my boyfriend, and we got in touch. He had class that he couldn’t get out of (if you miss a few classes at his school you get kicked out of the class!) so we arranged to meet outside his subway station a couple hours later. I got to the subway only to find out that a huge accident had happened and it would be down for two hours. So i had to take a bus, transfer a bunch of times, but I FINALLY got to where I needed to be, and right on time too!!
Some things I’ve noticed so far:
1) the french LOVE nutella
2) people bike everywhere here and are very unsafe with their babies in baskets on bikes with no helmets!!
3) I’ve met very few people who fit the stereotypical nose in the air frenchman ideal. I’ve really surprised myself with how much french I understand, and while I find it hard to speak very well, when people tak to me or to my boyfriend in french I understand almost everything they’re saying except for when they speak reeaallllly quickly lol. As long as you make an effort, they are very helpful. And so many french people I’ve met have been so funny and friendly, very nice and up to chatting in restaurants and cafes, to take pictures or to give advice. Really been very pleasant and happy people, at least to me!
4) people in paris dress ridiculously well
5) american pop and random american things are hipster here!! Hilarious.
6) the subway system is amazing!!
I’ve done so much so far and have a bit more to do before we jet off to spain, but wanted to touch base with you all so that you didn’t think I dropped off the earth. I hope all of your reading weeks have been going fabulously! Bon Soir!
